Wild Horses Monument

Have you heard of the Wild Horses Monument near Vantage, Washington? It's a cool spot for a quick hike, just a mile round trip. You'll trek up a rocky scramble trail to this bluff with a killer view of the Columbia River. What makes it extra special? Fifteen wild horse metal sculptures called "Grandfather Cuts Loose the Ponies" by artist David Govedare. They're life-size steel horses, frozen in galloping motion along the ridge above the river. The whole thing was put up in 1989–1990 as a gift for Washington's centennial. It's like a tribute to the wild horses that used to roam these parts. Plus, it's pretty popular – the Seattle Times says it's one of the most-viewed public art pieces in the state.
